Lochnagar Walk Success!

The first ever ARCHIE Lochnagar walk was undertaken by an intrepid group of adventurers on Saturday September 19th this year with all involved making it safely home and thoroughly enjoying their day’s fundraising!
As the walkers headed off with their respective mountain leaders, the summit of Lochnagar was set against a flawless bright blue sky and spirits were high that the summit would be reached.
The walkers progressed through checkpoint one, just before leaving the land rover track to head towards the summit, and still there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. However, an hour or so later, and with the teams arriving at checkpoint two (which was nestled under the summit and enjoying views of the mountain loch) the weather turned quite spectacularly bad!
With the summit now obscured, and other walkers who had made it to the top earlier in the day returning with reports of sleet, snow and gale force winds all in a thick blanket of cloud, the mountain leaders agreed that the safer, low level route would be undertaken.
The walkers therefore progressed around the side of Lochnagar to Glas Alt Sheil waterfalls and then down to Loch Muick.
Although disappointed not to make it to the summit of Lochnagar, and bemused that by the time everyone had returned to the car park the mountain was, once again, bathing in glorious sunshine, the walkers still enjoyed over 7 hours of breathtaking scenery!
