Robert Gordon College ARCHIE Art Show

Robert Gordon's College (RGC), Aberdeen held an Art Show last month in aid of the ARCHIE Foundation. The show, entitled 'Forecourt and Friends' was held in the MacRobert Hall at RGC and featured the work of local artists who are members of the Forecourt Art Group, including Gordonian Eric Auld.

The Robert Gordon Pupil's Charities Committee first met with Peter Hutchison, the ARCHIE Community Fundraising Manager in December 2009. After hearing about the work that the ARCHIE Foundation does at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital they felt inspired to put on an event to help raise as much money as they could. All the pupils agreed that they wanted to do something a bit different, and one of the ideas that was 'brainstormed' was an art exhibition. With a thriving art department and two possible locations for the exhibitions Robert Gordon's College looked to be the perfect host for such an event.

Over 160 pieces of framed art from around 40 artists were on show and Robert Gordon's College kindly donated 20% of picture sales and £1 catalogue profits towards the ARCHIE Foundation and the total raised from the event was £750.

Peter Hutchison commented, "It was very rewarding to get involved with the pupil's fundraising ideas and seeing them develop their organisation skills. All funds raised from this event will go directly towards 'making the difference' to the lives of children who are patients of the NHS in Grampian, Shetland and Orkney Islands."

Kenneth Watt (aged 15) who is a member of the Charity Committee at RGC said, "We raised a significant amount for the ARCHIE Foundation, which will inevitably benefit the hospital in many ways. It was a fun weekend for all of us involved."
