The ARCHIE Foundation, which is the Official Charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital will be celebrating it's 10th Birthday this September. To help mark this occasion they are seeking teams of 10 people to participate in their ARCHIE Amazon Adventure virtual team Challenge.

The Amazon Adventure will run from the 1st to the 30th September and will involve the teams walking, running, rowing or cycling the last 1,000 miles of the Amazon River.

To complete this epic virtual journey down the Amazon, the ARCHIE Foundation has developed it's own special website where participants can update their steps, from the supplied ARCHIE pedometers and track their team's progress and see how they are going compared to other teams.

ARCHIE are seeking teams of people from all walks of life to take part, including firemen, postmen, policemen, staff from legal firms, oil companies and rigs.

Peter Hutchison, ARCHIE Community Fundraising Manager commented, "The ARCHIE  Foundation is still making a huge difference for thousands of sick children every single year. We wanted to really celebrate our 10th Birthday in style and have come up with a fun, virtual challenge to raise vital funds and to also encourage team building."

One company who have agreed to take part in the event is Aberdeen-based Maersk Oil North Sea U.K. Limited. Stuart Godfrey and Helen Cromie, two geoscientists from Maersk Oil are pictured helping to launch the ARCHIE Amazon Adventure at the Aberdeen Sports Village today by getting in training for the Challenge.

Helen Cromie, the Chair of Maersk Oil's Sports and Social Club commented, "Having selected the ARCHIE Foundation as our charity of the year we cannot wait to take part in this unusual virtual challenge, with the added incentive of competing against other teams to the finish line. It's a great way to get fit, and help raise money for sick children here in the North East."

The ARCHIE Foundation is requesting those who would like to participate in the Amazon Adventure Challenge to visit the website www.amazonadventure.org.uk in order to register and get ready for the 1st of September start!

Rowing is just one method you can use to complete the Challenge!
