A Family Effort for ARCHIE

(photo above: Kerry Gerrard is pictured (4th from left) with her friends and family on the sponsored walk)

Turriff mum of two Kerry Gerrard organised a 7-mile sponsored walk in aid of the ARCHIE Foundation with 13 members of her family on Saturday 10th July, 2010, from Buckie's RNLI to the harbour at Cullen.

The walk was in memory of Kerry's grandmother, Mary McGregor - her dad's mum, and James Donn, who was her mum's dad, who passed away a year ago within just a week of each other.

Kerry also raised money by getting people to sponsor her for swimming the equivalent distance over the course of a week at Turriff swimming pool.

Kerry chose to raise funds for the ARCHIE Foundation because "her grandmother liked children and wanted to help sick children."

The event raised £600 for ARCHIE, and the money is to go towards improving the environment in which children are treated in the GMed centre at Turriff Community Hospital.

Lynn Gillespie who is the Chairwoman of the Deveron Friends of ARCHIE commented, "Kerry made a fantastic job of organising the sponsored walk and swim, and we are grateful to all the people who supported the event. Mary and James would have been so proud of her. The Deveron Friends of ARCHIE is aiming to 'Make the Difference' in paediatric care in our own area, which covers Sandend to Fyvie, and all the money raised in this area is spent in this area."
