Amy raises £3,743 from the Berlin marathon
Amy Morrison from McGregor Consultants partipated in the 38th Berlin Marathon on Sunday (25th September) and raised a huge amount of money for The ARCHIE Foundation.
The BMW Berlin Marathon started in 1974, and has appeared annually ever since. It is part of the marathon series, World Marathon Majors, together with the Boston, Chicago, London and New York marathons. The BMW Berlin-Marathon is regarded by many as one of the most attractive races in the world, with more than its fair share of historic sights lining the route. The course starts and finishes next to the famous Brandenburg Gate – and takes a route via many more notable spots such as the Reichstag and Berliner Dom. More than 40,000 runners take part in the race every year, and are cheered on by more than a million spectators lining the course.
After just 10 months of training, Amy ran her first marathon - The ING New York Marathon - in 2009, finishing in an impressive 4 hours and 46 minutes. Since then Amy has competed in five half-marathons. This year Amy decided she wanted to complete in another Marathon and so chose Berlin, a city she has always loved. The fact that the Berlin marathon course is almost completely flat helped make the decision easier!
Amy Morrison commented:
“I started working with McGregor Consultants about 4 months ago and my colleagues said they would help me to ask for sponsorship for the marathon. We chose to support The ARCHIE Foundation, a charity close to all our hearts, as a tribute to 7 year old Lorna, the daughter of one of our colleagues, who is currently undergoing treatment at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. We are honoured to do something for ARCHIE to say thanks for all the help and support they have given the family through their difficult times.
Running for such a great charity really helps with my training and motivation as the marathon is just one tiny part of the whole process. There's months and months of training that have preceded this, and knowing you are doing it to help such a good cause helps you get out of bed and get your trainers on when it's raining outside!
Lorna is such an inspiration, it will really help me round the final miles. Lorna and all the other children ARCHIE help are so brave, I will remember that in any difficult moments throughout the race.”
Cassie Thompson, Fundraising Manager, commented:
“On behalf of The ARCHIE Foundation, I would like to say a very warm and sincere thank you to Amy and her colleagues for their amazing fundraising efforts so far, and to everyone who has generously sponsored Amy. The money will ‘Make a tremendous Difference’ to children and families throughout the North of Scotland. We would like to thank Amy for her amazing efforts and hope she enjoyed the challenge."
