Big Small Isles Challenge - book your place now!
The Big Small Isles Challenge you just don't want to miss!
7th – 9th Sept 2012
The small Isles consist of the islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna. On this exciting and innovative challenge event you will visit all four of the Small Isles and climb to the highest point on each one – over a long weekend!
The itinerary provides the physical challenge of climbing 4 mountains over 2 days (ranging from 137m to 812m high) coupled with the excitement of high speed RIB boat transfers between the islands!
The programme for the challenge is as follows:
Day 1. Travel to Isle of Eigg.
We’ll ask you to make your way to Mallaig (and we recommend using the world’s best railway journey from Fort William – after all it was good enough for Harry Potter!) which is where we will meet you. We then step aboard the afternoon ferry to the Isle of Eigg which is often shadowed by dolphins and seabirds. Arriving on Eigg we settle into our rooms and enjoy a three course dinner! There will then be a briefing from our guides about the challenge ahead.
Day 2 – The Smaller Small Isles!
The aim today is to climb the highest summits of Canna, Muck and Eigg – a total hiking distance of 21km with a 740m ascent in total. In between the hikes you will be whisked from island to island on a high-speed boat! Again, look out for dolphins, whales and basking sharks all of which are regularly spotted in the area!
To help us recover at the end of each hike, our guides will also introduce you to the delights of each island’s tea rooms where you can enjoy a cuppa and a home-made cake!
Day 3 – The big climb on Rum!
The highest peak on the Small Isles is found in the Rum Cuillin and today you will hike to the lofty summit of Askival, 812m. As well as being the highest poeak on Rum, it is also one of the finest with a narrow ridge leading to the summit. This provides an exciting climax to the challenge but our guides will be on hand to offer assistance!
After descending we then make our way back to the boar which will transfer us to Mallaig – arriving at about 5pm. Local accommodation can be arranged for anyone wanting to end the challenge with a celebratory dram!
Costs and registering
Participants are asked to raise up to £750 to £1,000 to take part in this challenge - at which point there will be no costs to the participant.
